I really liked the motion in this graphics piece. It starts out with a drop of gold. My animation ends with blue (tears mixed with blood). I have a lot of transformations for transitions in my piece, but everything cel-animated seems so flat, even if the pencil textures are layered. I want to incorporate 2D with 3D elements, and I want a nice flow and smoothness like this piece visualizes.
This motion piece has a line that follows our eye (the camera) thru paper. Erasing and creating pencil-like textures that draw various graphics. I don't want a line making leading the audience for my animation, but I do want the camera to follow actions that draw us in like a roller-coaster ride.
I still haven't seen this movie, yet, but the popular After Effects designers MK12 did the opening sequence for the newest James Bond movie. I would like to keep my film open for live footage, mixing with textures. There are lots of plays with people and sand in this sequence, and I really like the merging feel that we are given. The women in the form of a Zoetrope towards the end of the piece is a cool idea--taking something live, and representing it in another format.
This is another movie that I still haven't gotten a chance to watch, but MirrorMask has a lot of quirky 3D effects and puppeteering. I am not enriched in using special effects, but I love the Jim Henson's Labyrinth aspect of eerie environment. I think Photoshop and my abysmal stash of photography could make some mean backgrounds.
At first I wasn't sure if this was an official music video, but I guess it is for O'Death. The consistency is horrible, and there are random scenes that take us in and out of others, which is completely confusing. I don't even understand the song. However, beyond the short criticisms, I think there is potential with the idea of non-linear passages throughout a single piece. I've enjoyed editing a film or two in the past using non-linear storytelling, and have enjoyed it plenty. I think using the various techniques and textures that I will have at my disposal, Bleu Blood could turn out to be a lovely "music video" piece on its own.
Close-ups are key shots to my animation. This opening sequence has a lot to offer with rain and water, and the eye shot of the woman. I have three eye sequences in my piece that are important transitions for Livius as the main character ages and realizes his / herself.
This is a music video done for South African musician Chris Chameleon. The piece includes illustration, special effects, and 3D. It tells an abstract story with steady motion. I appreciate this MV greatly as inspiration that comes close to what I will be aspiring to.
This piece is overloaded with textures and dissolves. It was slow-paced, and not too much my cup of tea. Although, it has some nice elements integrated into the video, and I wouldn't mind using some water and woody textures and play with those over other live footage and 2D elements.
